Acidic or alkaline wastewater is neutralized using appropriate chemicals to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Similarly, in swimming pools, chemicals are added to neutralize pH levels and maintain a safe and comfortable swimming environment for users.

For instance, during the production of cheese, lactic acid is neutralized by adding calcium hydroxide, resulting in the formation of calcium lactate and water. This neutralization reaction helps to coagulate the milk proteins and contribute to the overall texture and flavor of the cheese.
